IV Symposium on Older Adult’s Mental Health: Lifestyle and Integrative medicine for Older Adult’s Mental Health.
Mental disorders have posed greater challenges to conventional medicine approaches in recent times. Despite a plethora of treatments available for alleviating mental health issues, it has been reported that conventional interventions as they stand cannot comprehensively address all mental health issues. Therefore, there is an increased need in adopting lifestyle changes, as well as incorporating traditional medicine as a complementary approach to mainstream medicine (i.e. to adopt Integrative Medicine).
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), traditional systems of medicine have a long history that is based on “theories, beliefs, and experiences indigenous to different cultures, whether explicable or not, used in the maintenance of health as well as in the prevention, diagnosis, improvement or treatment of physical and mental illness”. Complementary medicine encompasses a diverse range of health practices outside a country’s traditional or conventional medicine, which are not yet fully integrated into the prevailing healthcare system.
The WHO advocates for the widespread availability, accessibility, affordability, and safety of traditional, conventional, and integrative healthcare approaches throughout the life course and care continuum. It also underscores the importance of regulating, researching, and integrating traditional and complementary medicine into the health system to contribute to overall health and well-being.
In accordance with these statements, the theme of the IV Older Adult’s Mental Health Symposium is: “Lifestyle and Integrative Medicine for Older Adult’s Mental Health.” It aims to discuss the progress in science and adoption in practice of diverse strategies for addressing older adult’s mental health. These include Yoga, Tai chi, Meditation, Acupuncture, Ayurveda, Dietary and herbal supplements. To enhance collaboration among mental health professionals for older adults in Brazil, India, China and other countries, the event will take place on Zoom Meeting with live transmission, allowing professionals and students from all over the world to register and attend online.
All the lectures will be delivered in English and there will be no registration fee.
Zoom’s automatic closed caption translation from English to Portuguese, Hindi, Chinese and other languages will be provided.
